Restaurants in the U.S. have huge food portions and asking for a take home box is acceptable. I love that. No one likes to leave a restaurant hungry. Refills are free too. It's a different story in Europe. There's a line on the drinking glass where the server will pour to, stop, and never come back, so you better ration your drink. We definately have it nice here.

My friend that I use to work with, though, said that Oklahoma was the first place he'd ever been to where they ask you if you want a to-go cup for your drink. He thought that weird. This was usually when we'd have our 1+ hour lunches and chit-chatted up a storm with the crew there. Usually it was On The Border. I just thought it was nice of them to ask. It's another way for them to make sure their service was more than adequate. Not all servers/restaurants are like that though.
I'm glad we get take-out boxes 'cause I can hardly ever finish the huge portions. I guess that justifies the price.
Yeah the portions are huge. In the Philippines, the portions are much smaller. I remember having to order practically double just to be "full". A memorable time was when my cousin asked for a napkin and the waitress gave us 1 napkin...unlike here when you ask for a napkin they give you several. I agree with Benheart. The to box is where it's at!
Hmm...it just shows how fat Americans are.
