How a person spends their spare time determines the kind of person they are. What they do for entertainment reflects their personality, character, motivation, and so much more. The entertainment industry is constantly evolving, and what traps are you falling into? I wonder sometimes if everyone has taken it too far. From bungee jumping to bug eating, I wonder if people have really exhausted the traditional methods of entertainment and turned to such bizarre adventures.Of course, it is good for new ideas to circulate and for people to try new things, but what about the simple entertainments? I think people have a habit of going out ALL THE TIME. People go out to eat, see movies, and drink... all the time. Sometimes is fine, but when I meet someone who enjoys the simple things, like reading or art or building, the person stands out of the crowd in my mind. It shows a determination in self-improvement.
I'm still having this battle. It's so easy and tempting to agree to go out with the buddies, even though I may have a great book waiting for me at home. I just have to remind myself of the pros and cons. How will going out improve myself? In my experience, nights out on the town are fleeting, but literature is something that will stick in my mind for the better.

There is nothing more attractive than a guy who reads Voltaire or Sophocles! I think that going out all the time takes the fun out of it. It's less special when you go out with your friends if you're use to going out all the time.
Also, wouldn't it be great if there was a tall, attractive, brunette guy who is well read, likes art, wine, provides great conversation, is multilingual, likes to be childish at times, adventurous and openminded, enjoys athletics, goes out on occasions and can dance well, enjoys silence from time to time, appreciates family values, and is hilarious? Is there someone out there like that? Or am I asking for too much? ;-)

Humans are insatiable. Always looking for something newer or better. However, in order to understand and appreciate something, you cannot desire it or possess it. For example a flower, you cut it and enjoy it for a couple of days. Sure it would have died eventually by itself, but its own purpose in life was not met. The bees could not feed, the plant was not pollinated. Desire causes you to just enjoy the easily apparent beauty of a flower. However if you really understood and appreciated a flower you would leave it alone, you would walk around it, observe it, smell it, touch it, contemplate how it came into being and how best to nurture it and preserve its kind, so that it may fullfill its life.
Every new possession brings us weariness - or something like that on chevilles website.
Therefore entertainment that can be bought or possessed, is that really entertaining?
